The two friends both make it to Mundella Grammar School and while Kathie takes to hockey like a duck to water, in her spare time Rosie goes on an amazingly complicated treasure hunt for a pot of gold which begins in the well of an ancient ruined abbey.
Kathie, cos' she's so quick and skilful, soon gets into the school team and amazingly Mundella, who have hardly won a match before, start winning all their games. They climb the league, but then the captain resigns. Kathie is determined to get the job and pulls every dirty trick in the book to win it. Mundella's rival for the hockey cup is Croydon Comprehensive coached by the fanatical Mrs Hamilton. She too will stop at nothing and orders one of her players to scythe down Kathie . . .
Meanwhile Rosie finds bottle after bottle on the treasure hunt. They contain complicated clues in

| code which have to be worked out with her friend – luckily, Kathie is very brainy and Rosie is an ace student at English. Together they are unstoppable . . . even by a field full of angry bulls!
